Carbon negative coffee

Yet another delicious coffee from our good friend and direct trade partner Nancy Hernandez. The Angelical returns for its fourth year as a Natural processed coffee, although this year we have selected the Obata variety. This variety is particularly notable for its high yield and resistance to common coffee plant diseases, making it a valuable crop for a sustainable coffee farm.

We found some more savoury and nutty notes in this year’s yield, alongside brown sugar sweetness and dried blueberry and tropical notes.

Back in March 2020, we met Nancy not on her farm but in the café-roastery she built in the town she calls home in La Paz. At the time, we were blown away not only by the delicious coffee, but by the place she had built to enjoy it. It became a cherished memory once the world shut down, one last coffee with a producer we admired before everything changed. We are so excited to finally share that coffee after all of this – it takes us back to a time that feels so long ago.

I’m not usually one for natural-process coffees, but this Obata from Nancy Hernandez is a total game-changer—the blue notes are subtle yet unmistakable, and the sweetness carries through every sip. At 1,550 meters, you can really taste the altitude in the complexity. I’ve already ordered a second ba

The Obata cultivar really shines here—it’s got that clean, syrupy sweetness I didn’t expect from a natural process. Brewed a pour-over this morning and the blueberry note was unmistakable, even at 1,550 masl. This is the kind of bag that makes you check your brew ratio twice just to make sure it’s r

The Obata cultivar really stands out — that natural process gives it a juicy, blue-forward sweetness I’ve been chasing for months. Brewed it as a pour-over at work and my coworker asked what the heck I was drinking. At 1,550 meters, you can taste the altitude in the clean finish.
