Las Etiopes, nestled in the mountains of Jaén within the village of El Porvenir, is the brainchild of UK expatriate Simon Brown and his wife Merlith Cruz. Spanning eight hectares, this farm comprises a diverse landscape, with one hectare dedicated to the cultivation of Ethiopian Heirlooms and Geisha, while another hectare is planted with traditional varieties like Borbón, Caturra, and Catimor. Simon began his venture in 2019, driven by the promise he observed in the region's terroir during numerous harvest seasons spent in Jaén.

This lot is a beautiful example of a classic Washed Caturra. The sweetness reminds us of black wine gums with a gentle apple acidity, rounded out by classic chocolate and nutty flavours.

Elizabeth ★★★★★

The washed process really lets the red caturra shine—clean cup, no heaviness, just a bright, lively acidity that I keep coming back to. Bought it on a whim and honestly it’s the first bag I’ve finished in under two weeks.

The wet fermentation at 1,850 meters gives this Caturra a clarity I wasn't expecting, and the red cultivar really shines through in the cup. Brewed it as a pour-over and the finish was so clean it made me go back for a second batch. This one's going in my rotation for sure.

The washed process really lets the red caturra’s sweetness shine through—this is one of the cleanest cups I’ve had from Jaén. At 1,850 masl, you get that bright, floral lift without any harshness. I’ve already ordered another bag.
