Chiroso-lajike löydettiin alun perin Urraon alueelta Antioquiasta, Kolumbiasta. Sen uskottiin olevan alueella yleisesti viljellyn Caturra-lajikkeen mutaatio, mutta tuoreet geneettiset testit osoittavat sen olevan peräisin Etiopiasta.

Nimi "Chiroso" tulee todennäköisesti kolumbialaisesta "Achira"-keksistä, koska kahvipavun pitkulainen muoto muistuttaa sitä.
